There are many versions of a tale of Snow White. From the happy style of Walt Disney's to dark and sinister version of the Grimm Brothers's. Then, what about Kristen Stewart's Snow White version?
Snow White and The Huntsman begins with the voice of narrator who tells the story of the origin of Snow White (the method is also used by the another Snow White version movie that was released a few months earlier, "Mirror Mirror"). After the death of the Queen (Liberty Ross), The King (Noah Huntley) met Ravenna (Charlize Theron with her beautiful and creepy charm).
Interested in the beauty of Ravenna, the King immediately married her and in she immediately became the new queen of the kingdom. What the King doesn't know is the actual form of Ravenna. Ravenna is a vengeful woman who wants timeless beauty and strength. Then she killed the King and put Snow White to the other side of the castle that is can not be touchable. And Ravenna get everything she wanted.
Unfortunately, Ravenna's want to be the only beautiful woman in the world. And for that, Ravenna must take Snow White's heart to gain immortality which she dreamed. Snow White escaped and strayed into the Dark Forest.
Then the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) who is sent by Ravenna to capture Ravenna Snow White. Escorted by an army of Ravenna envoys, the Huntsman hunt Snow White. However, after meet Snow White, Huntsman suddenly changed his mind. He must choose whether to continue the mission in favor of the Queen or release Snow White who began to attract his attention.
You don't need to think which one is better between Snow White and The Huntsman and Mirror Mirror. Because it is totally different version of Snow White. If Mirror Mirror target more child and teenager audience, Snow White and the Huntsman was created for more mature audience. It can also be said Mirror Mirror is not too serious version of Snow White, meanwhile Snow White and the Huntsman is serious version of Snow White.
Thanks to Charlize Theron who has played the role of the Queen. It's very cool. Although her role as Mavis Gary in Young Adult is much more powerful but Theron still seems powerful in this movie.
Kristen Stewart is more fun to see and look beautiful as Snow White rather than as Bella Swan. However, imbalance between Theron and Stewart's acting caused the film somewhat lost focus in the middle of the film. Evan Dougherty, John Lee Hancock and Hossein Amini seems forgot who they were talking about in this movie, is it Snow White or Queen Ravenna?
But, it's not a big problem. Rupert Sanders who started his directorial debut gives us an extraordinary visual breathtaking. Mirror Mirror is presenting a visually beautiful, but the Snow White and The Huntsman gives the impression of magic on every frame available. The castle looked magnificent, DarkForest looked very dark and creepy. And when Snow White walking in the woods to see the fairies, nothing is more brilliant than this.
Snow White and The Huntsman is clearly the most successful fairy tale movie reboot, compared to Red Riding Hood and Mirror Mirror. This is a Snow White version that is suitable for Generation 2.0. Beautiful, exciting and very entertaining.
