Gary Ross decided will not direct Catching Fire, the sequel of Hunger Games because of salary issues. Now, Lionsgate has found replacement director. Who is he? He is Francis Lawrence, director who famous through film I Am Legend and Water for Elephants.
According to Variety, Friday (20/04/2012), the news has been confirmed by Lionsgate spokesman on Thursday (04/19/2012) local time. Criteria for the directors sought must have ability to handle large-scale actors and most importantly be able to collaborate in writing of scenarios with Suzanne Collins and Simon Beaufoy.
Previously, some names have also glimpsed by Lionsgate to become replacement direcotr. One them is director of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Alfonso Cuaron. But Francis Lawrence is choosen because Lionsgate feel that he more appropriately to become the director.
Cathing Fire scheduled to begin filming in August. Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth will return to play their respective roles as Everdeen Katniss, Peeta and Gale Mellark Hawthorn.
Catching Fire is scheduled for release in U.S. theaters on 22 November 2013.
